Smiley kicks off reelection bid as Morales enters Providence mayor’s race

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley launched his reelection campaign Monday night, officially setting up a Democratic Primary fight against State Rep. David Morales.

Smiley, who was first elected in 2022, is seeking another term. Morales, a state representative, is challenging him in the primary.

The race will determine who leads Rhode Island’s capital as it continues to navigate budget challenges, development projects, and neighborhood concerns that have dominated City Hall debates in recent years.
