Spoelstra: LaMelo’s Already Paid the Price

Erik Spoelstra isn’t calling for LaMelo Ball’s head. The Heat coach said Thursday that the Hornets star doesn’t deserve any further punishment after getting fined for tripping Bam Adebayo during their recent matchup.
Ball caught heat for the play — literally and figuratively. The NBA slapped him with a fine, which is standard procedure for that kind of chippy stuff. But Spoelstra, ever the measured voice in the league, sees it differently. He’s basically saying: case closed, move on.
This is classic Spoelstra. He’s not out here looking to escalate beefs or pile on. The fine was the consequence. The message was sent. And in his mind, continuing to harp on it or push for additional discipline is overkill.
For Ball, this is a small win in the court of public opinion. Yeah, he got fined. But having a respected coach like Spoelstra publicly backing off keeps this from becoming a bigger narrative. It’s the kind of thing that matters in these playoff moments — when every possession, every reputation, every headline can affect momentum.
