East Providence installed cameras on school buses to catch speeding drivers and reckless passing. Nearly a full school year later, the system still isn’t operational. No tickets have been issued.
The cameras were supposed to photograph license plates of vehicles that illegally pass stopped buses or drive too fast in school zones. It’s a safety tool used in other districts across the country.
The school year is almost over. The technology remains offline.
