One of the greatest saxophonists of all time is gone. Sonny Rollins, the tenor sax icon who basically rewrote the jazz rulebook and kept innovating for over five decades, died Monday at 95. RIP to a true legend.
Rollins wasn’t just talented — he was obsessed with pushing boundaries. His bold, instantly recognizable tone and relentless experimentation made him one of jazz’s most restless geniuses. While other musicians got comfortable, he was constantly evolving, refusing to play it safe.
For more than 50 years, Rollins dominated the jazz scene, collaborating with everyone who mattered and creating sounds that influenced generations. He wasn’t the type to rest on his laurels or milk his greatest hits. He genuinely couldn’t stop himself from trying something new, something different, something better.
The music world lost a titan on Monday. Sonny Rollins’ legacy? Basically everything that came after him in jazz.
