Mel Gibson Warned Passion Sequel Could ‘Invite Satan’

Mel Gibson straight-up told the screenwriter of his new Christ film that making it could literally invite Satan’s attention. Wild, right? Screenwriter Randall Wallace spilled the tea about a conversation he had with Gibson regarding Resurrection of the Christ, where Gibson apparently got real dark about the spiritual stakes of the project.

According to Wallace, Gibson warned him during a discussion about grace that the sequel could draw demonic forces. Gibson’s basically saying: this movie is so powerful, the devil himself might show up. The actor-director has always been intense about his faith and his filmmaking, but this takes it to another level.

This is classic Mel energy, honestly. The guy who made The Passion of the Christ — the insanely controversial 2004 film that broke box office records and sparked major debates — isn’t exactly known for playing it safe. Apparently, his approach to the sequel is equally all-in, spiritually speaking.

No word yet on whether Wallace was shook by Gibson’s warning or if he took it as creative motivation. Either way, this spiritual thriller has officially gotten spicier.
