How to Connect TikTok to Hootsuite
Hootsuite's TikTok integration allows you to schedule, publish, and monitor TikTok content from the same platform you use to manage your other social media channels. This is especially valuable for marketing teams and agencies that need to coordinate TikTok campaigns alongside Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X. With Hootsuite managing your TikTok presence, you can maintain a consistent posting cadence, collaborate on content creation, and track performance metrics without switching between apps.
Prerequisites
Make sure the following requirements are met before attempting to connect TikTok to Hootsuite:
- TikTok Business account: Hootsuite's integration works with TikTok Business accounts. You can convert your account in the TikTok app under Settings and Privacy, then Manage Account, then Switch to Business Account. Creator accounts may also work, but Business accounts provide the fullest API access.
- Hootsuite Professional plan or higher: TikTok is available as a social network on Hootsuite's Professional, Team, and Enterprise plans. The free and limited plans may not include TikTok as a channel option.
- Admin or Super Admin permissions in Hootsuite: Only users with Admin or Super Admin roles in a Hootsuite organization can add new social accounts. If you are a team member, ask your admin to add the TikTok account or grant you the necessary permissions.
- Web browser access: The connection process requires a desktop or laptop browser. You cannot connect TikTok to Hootsuite from the Hootsuite mobile app.
Step-by-Step Connection Guide
- Log in to Hootsuite at hootsuite.com.
- Click your profile icon or organization name in the bottom-left corner of the dashboard.
- Select Social accounts and teams from the menu. On newer Hootsuite layouts, this may appear under Account, then Social accounts.
- Click Add a social account (the plus icon or button).
- Select TikTok from the list of available social networks.
- A popup window will open, redirecting you to TikTok's login page. Sign in with the TikTok Business account you want to connect.
- TikTok will display a permissions screen listing what Hootsuite will be able to do: post videos on your behalf, access your profile information, and retrieve video analytics. Review these permissions and click Authorize.
- You will be redirected back to Hootsuite. The TikTok account will now appear in your list of connected social accounts.
- Optionally, assign the TikTok account to a specific team within your Hootsuite organization so the right team members have access to it.
After the connection is established, you can add TikTok to your Hootsuite streams, create posts for TikTok in the Composer, and access TikTok analytics from the Analytics section.
Configuration and Settings
Setting Up TikTok Streams
After connecting your TikTok account, add a TikTok stream to your Hootsuite dashboard. Click the Add Stream button, select your TikTok account, and choose from available stream types. TikTok streams typically show your published videos and their engagement metrics. Unlike some other platforms, TikTok does not provide a feed stream through the API, so you will primarily see your own content.
Default Post Settings
In the Hootsuite Composer, you can set default options for your TikTok posts. When creating a new TikTok post, configure the following for each video: privacy level (Public, Friends, or Private), whether to allow comments, whether to allow duets, and whether to allow stitches. Hootsuite also lets you add a disclosure label for branded or sponsored content to comply with TikTok's policies.
Publishing Queue
Set up an AutoSchedule queue or custom posting times for your TikTok channel. Navigate to Publisher, then Posting Times, and add time slots for your TikTok account. Hootsuite's AutoSchedule feature will automatically assign your TikTok posts to available time slots based on your configured schedule.
Team Permissions
If you are on a Team or Enterprise plan, configure which team members can post to TikTok. Go to Social accounts and teams, select the TikTok account, and adjust permissions. You can set members as having full publishing rights or limit them to drafting content that requires approval before publishing.
What You Can Do After Setup
- Schedule and auto-publish TikTok videos: Upload videos directly to Hootsuite's Composer, write captions, add hashtags, and schedule them for future publication. Hootsuite will publish them automatically at the scheduled time.
- Plan TikTok content in a visual calendar: Use Hootsuite's Planner to see your TikTok posts alongside content for all your other social channels. Drag and drop posts to reschedule them as needed.
- Monitor TikTok performance in analytics: Access video-level and account-level analytics for your TikTok channel including views, engagement rate, follower growth, and audience demographics.
- Use Hootsuite's content library: Store approved video assets in Hootsuite's content library for easy reuse. Team members can access pre-approved videos when creating TikTok posts.
- Generate performance reports: Create custom analytics reports that include TikTok alongside your other channels. Export reports as PDFs for stakeholders or clients.
Best Practices
- Batch your TikTok content creation: Record and edit multiple TikTok videos in a session, then upload them all to Hootsuite and schedule them across the coming days or weeks. This approach saves time and ensures you never miss a posting day.
- Use Hootsuite's best time to publish feature: Hootsuite analyzes your posting history and audience behavior to recommend optimal posting times. Enable this for your TikTok account to maximize video reach and engagement.
- Coordinate TikTok with other channels: Use the Planner view to ensure your TikTok content complements what you are posting on Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other platforms. Repurpose short-form video across channels but adjust captions and hashtags for each platform.
- Set up approval workflows for teams: On Team and Enterprise plans, require that TikTok posts go through an approval process before publishing. This prevents off-brand content from going live and maintains quality control.
- Tag your TikTok posts with campaigns: Use Hootsuite's tagging feature to organize TikTok posts by campaign, product launch, or content theme. This makes it easier to measure performance by campaign in your analytics reports.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- TikTok account does not appear as an option: Verify that your Hootsuite plan includes TikTok support. The Free plan and some older plan types may not offer TikTok as a channel. Upgrade your plan or contact Hootsuite support to confirm eligibility.
- Authorization fails or loops: Clear your browser cache and cookies for both hootsuite.com and tiktok.com. Try the connection in an incognito or private browsing window. Make sure you are logging in to the correct TikTok account and that it has Business status.
- Videos fail to publish with a format error: Ensure your video is MP4 format, between 3 seconds and 10 minutes long, at least 720p resolution, and under 512 MB. Hootsuite may reject videos that do not meet TikTok's specifications.
- Connection drops after a few weeks: TikTok API tokens expire periodically. When you see a disconnection warning in Hootsuite, go to Social accounts, remove the TikTok account, and reconnect it. This refreshes the token and restores the connection.
- Analytics data is delayed or missing: TikTok analytics data can take up to 48 hours to sync to Hootsuite. If you recently connected your account, wait a few days for historical data to populate. If data remains missing, disconnect and reconnect the account.
Limitations and Workarounds
- No TikTok Inbox or comment replies: Hootsuite's Inbox does not currently support TikTok comments or direct messages. You must manage comments and DMs directly in the TikTok app. Workaround: Set up a daily routine to check TikTok comments separately, or use a dedicated TikTok community management tool.
- No native effects, sounds, or music: You cannot add TikTok's built-in effects, transitions, or licensed music through Hootsuite. Videos must be fully edited before uploading. Workaround: Use video editing apps like CapCut or InShot to add effects and royalty-free music before uploading to Hootsuite.
- No TikTok LIVE scheduling: Hootsuite cannot schedule or manage TikTok LIVE sessions. You must go live directly from the TikTok app.
- Limited engagement features: TikTok features like duets, stitches, and Q&A cannot be initiated from Hootsuite. These are native TikTok features that require the TikTok app.
- Photo carousel support may be limited: TikTok's photo mode and carousel features may not be fully supported through the API. If you need to post image carousels, create them directly in TikTok.
